Into the Gila: The Plains of San Agustin

The Very Large Array (VLA) is a radio astronomy observatory located on the Plains of San Agustin—it was the starting point for the recent NMBR Gila Exploration.

As certain routes into the Gila Wilderness from this direction can take 2 or 3 days (traversing 175+ miles of rough dirt roads), fuel tanks should be topped off in Magdalena or Datil before entering this remote region.
Please note that preparations for backcountry travels go far beyond a full tank of gas.
