Into Utah

A return to the pleasures of human powered exploration and renewal of a long lost passion for mountain biking.

We departed Las Cruces under darkness bound to make Zion by sunset. Bikes strapped and a small bike shop loaded we were prepared for most any failure short of the riders. Behind the wheel of Hayostek's Lexus GX 470 I realized that my 4Runner would never forgive for such a selfish act of travel without her.
-It was a strange feeling to be traveling Utah without the assistance of armor and lockers.

“Glen Canyon Dam at Lake Powell”- Finished in 1963 at a cost of $155 million and 18 lives

“Colorado from Gorge” - At 700 feet above the Colorado River, this is the second-highest steel-arch bridge in the world

“Steel Against Sandstone”

“Checkerboard Mesa at Zion”- Carved Navajo Sandstone

Indeed, we did make it to Zion in time for sunset. A long day of travel left us quiet and awestruck by the grand surroundings. The fast dying day and our diminished ambitions called for a return to Zion farther along our visit.
